উচ্চ শিক্ষাৰ গৌৰৱোজ্জ্বল প্ৰতিষ্ঠান পাণ্ডু মহাবিদ্যালয়ৰ ‘অসমীয়া বিভাগ’ এটি বৰ্ণাঢ্য বিভাগ। হীৰক জয়ন্তীত ভৰি দিয়া এই বিভাগটোৱে ১৯৬৭-৬৮ চনতেই গুৱাহাটী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ৰ অনুমোদনমৰ্মে সন্মান পাঠ্যক্ৰমৰ সূচনা কৰি উচ্চ শিক্ষাৰ প্ৰসাৰত অৰিহণা যোগাই আহিছে। ২০১২ চনত অসমীয়া বিভাগে স্নাতকোত্তৰ শাখা প্ৰৱৰ্তন কৰাৰ লগে লগে বিভাগটোৱে অধিক গতি লাভ কৰে। সম্প্ৰতি বিভাগত উচ্চতৰ মাধ্যমিক, তিনিবছৰীয়া স্নাতক মহলাৰ পাঠ্যক্ৰম আৰু দুবছৰীয়া স্নাতকোত্তৰ পাঠ্য়ক্ৰম পঢ়াৰ সুবিধা আছে। স্নাতকোত্তৰ মহলাত আসনৰ সংখ্যা ৩০ খন। আৰম্ভণিৰে পৰাই স্নাতক আৰু স্নাতকোত্তৰ শ্ৰেণীৰ ছাত্ৰ-ছাত্ৰীসকলৰ পৰীক্ষাৰ কৃতকাৰ্যতাৰ হাৰ চকুত লগা আৰু বৰ্তমানো প্ৰথম শ্ৰেণীত উত্তীৰ্ণ হোৱা ছাত্ৰ-ছাত্ৰীৰ সংখ্যা আশাপ্ৰদভাৱে বৃদ্ধি পাইছে।
বৰ্তমান বিভাগটোত ৭ গৰাকী স্থায়ী শিক্ষকৰ লগতে অংশকালীন অধ্যাপকৰো ব্যৱস্থা আছে। সাহিত্য জগতত পৰিচিত নন্দ তালুকদাৰ, প্ৰসন্নৰাম দাস, ভূপেন্দ্ৰ কুমাৰ বাৰ্মা, ড° পৰাগ কুমাৰ ভট্টাচাৰ্য, ভৱানীপ্ৰসাদ অধিকাৰী, ড° নীলমোহন ৰায় ৰ দৰে ব্যক্তিয়ে বিভাগটোত অধ্যাপনা কৰি বিভাগটোৰ সৌষ্ঠৱ বৃদ্ধি কৰি থৈ গৈছে।

সাহিত্য চ’ৰা অসমীয়া বিভাগৰ এক উল্লেখযোগ্য অনুষ্ঠান। জন্মলগ্নৰে পৰা সাহিত্য চ’ৰাই বৌদ্ধিক চিন্তা-চৰ্চা, ভাষা-সাহিত্য-সংস্কৃতিৰ উত্তৰণৰ বাবে এখন বিভাগীয় মঞ্চৰূপে কাম কৰি আহিছে। ছাত্ৰ-ছাত্ৰীসকলৰ মাজত বৌদ্ধিক-সাংস্কৃতিক-সামাজিক জ্ঞান বৃদ্ধিৰ বাবে বিভিন্ন ধৰণৰ প্ৰতিযোগিতা (কুইজ, আকস্মিক বক্তৃতা, আবৃত্তি)ৰ আয়োজন কৰা, অসমৰ বিশিষ্ট সাহিত্যিক, শিক্ষাবিদ, লোক-সংস্কৃতিবিদক আমন্ত্ৰণ কৰি আনি ছাত্ৰ-ছাত্ৰীসকলক মাৰ্গদৰ্শন আৰু ভাৱ-বিনিময় কৰোৱা আদি কাৰ্যক্ৰমণিকাৰে সাহিত্য চ’ৰাই মহাবিদ্যালয়ৰ লগতে সমাজলৈ অৰিহণা আগবঢ়াই আহিছে।

বিভাগৰ প্ৰাক্তন অধ্যাপক ক্ৰমে ড° পৰাগ কুমাৰ ভট্টাচাৰ্য আৰু ড° নীলমোহন ৰায় গুৱাহাটী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ৰ পি এইচ. ডি. পাঠ্যক্ৰমৰ গৱেষণা তত্ত্বৱধায়কৰূপে দায়িত্ব পালন কৰি আহিছে। তদুপৰি ২০১২ চনৰ পৰা আৰম্ভ হোৱা স্নাতকোত্তৰ পাঠ্য়ক্ৰমত ছাত্ৰ-ছাত্ৰীসকলক গৱেষণা কৰ্মৰ সৈতে প্ৰাথমিক পৰিচয় কৰাই দিবলৈ বিভাগীয় অধ্যাপক-অধ্যাপিকাসকলে গৱেষণাৰ তাত্ত্বিক আৰু প্ৰায়োগিক বিভিন্ন দিশৰ বিভিন্ন দিহা-পৰামৰ্শ দি বিভাগত বৌদ্ধিকতাৰ লগতে গৱেষণাৰ এক সুস্থ পৰিমণ্ডল গঢি় তুলিছে।

পাণ্ডু মহাবিদ্যালয়ৰ মূল পুথিভঁৰালৰ লগতে বিভাগতো স্নাতক আৰু স্নাতকোত্তৰ শ্ৰেণীৰ ছাত্ৰ-ছাত্ৰীসকলৰ বাবে বিভাগীয় পুথিভঁৰালৰ ব্যৱস্থা আছে। বিভাগীয় পুথিভঁৰালৰ বাবে প্ৰত্যেকবছৰে ছাত্ৰ-ছাত্ৰীৰ পাঠ্যক্ৰমৰ সৈতে সংগতি ৰাখি গ্ৰন্থ ক্ৰয় কৰা হয়। বৰ্তমান বিভাগত সাহিত্য-ভাষা-সংস্কৃতি-সমালোচনা-বুৰঞ্জী আদি বিভিন্ন বিষয় আৰু ধাৰাৰ প্ৰায় ৪৮০ খন কিতাপ আৰু আলোচনী উপলব্ধ। এই পুথিভঁৰালৰ পৰা শিক্ষাৰ্থীসকলে ষাণ্মাসিক অনুযায়ী নিৰ্দিষ্ট বাৰত কিতাপ ল’ব পাৰে।

পুথিভঁৰালৰ লগতে অসমীয়া বিভাগত সাহিত্য অকাডেমি বঁটাপ্ৰাপ্ত অসমীয়া গ্ৰন্থৰ আৰু জ্ঞানপীঠ বঁটা বিজয়ী অসমীয়া সাহিত্যিকৰ ৰচনাৰাজিৰ এক সংগ্ৰহ উপলব্ধ। ১৯৫৫ চনৰ পৰাই অসমীয়া সাহিত্যই সাহিত্য অকাডেমি বঁটা লাভ কৰি আহিছে। একেদৰে ১৯৭৯ চনত বীৰেন্দ্ৰকুমাৰ ভট্টাচাৰ্য, ২০০০ চনত মামণি ৰয়ছম গোস্বামী আৰু ২০২১ চনত নীলমণি ফুকনে সাহিত্যকৰ্মৰ বাবে জ্ঞানপীঠ বঁটাৰে বিভূষিত হৈছিল। এই সংগ্ৰহৰ জৰিয়তে শিক্ষাৰ্থীসকলক অসমীয়া সাহিত্যৰ এচাম প্ৰতিনিধিমূলক শ্ৰেষ্ঠ সাহিত্যৰ সৈতে পৰিচয় কৰাই দিব বিচৰা হৈছে।
