Department at a glance
The journey of Commerce Department was started in the year 1962, along with the inception of Pandu College, with the opening of a vocational subject in Pre-University course. At present, the Department is offering education in Higher Secondary course under AHSEC and undergraduate course (B. Com) under Gauhati University. In undergraduate course (B. Com), the Department offers Major in 3 subjects Accountancy, Finance and Marketing Management and Minor course.



The department of Commerce, Pandu College is well equipped with all facilities required for teaching learning process, including a departmental library consisting of 800 books on different subjects, which are available for students and faculties. Besides that, the department also organizes some placement orientation- programme to provide free training for the end semester (B. Com 6th Semester) students, in collaboration with organization, which increase employability level of the students in present job market with job assurance.

SEBI’s awareness programme on “SMARTs Investor Investment Programme” The SEBI’s awareness programme on “SMARTs Investor Investment Programme” was successfully conducted on 31st March 2026 at Department of Commerce Pandu College under the joint initiative of the IQAC and the Department of Commerce, Pandu College in collaboration with SMART's Investor Awareness Program (Securities Market Awareness through Resource Trainers – SEBI Initiative). The programme aimed to enhance financial literacy among students and promote awareness about smart and responsible investment practices in the securities and financial markets. Mr. Abdul Aziz, the resource person from the SMART Investor Awareness Program, delivered an engaging and informative session. He highlighted the importance of early investment habits, various investment avenues such as mutual funds, equities, bonds, and government schemes, and the need for informed decision-making while avoiding common financial risks and frauds. A total of 49 students from 2nd, 4th, 6th Semester and all the faculty members of Department of Commerce attended the programme. The session witnessed active participation from the students. Banashree Malakar from the 2nd Semester and Dilbahadur Chetri from the 4th Semester raised queries on topics such as risk management, and career opportunities in the financial sector. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the HOD, Ajay P. Saikia, appreciating the resource person for his valuable insights and the participants for their enthusiastic involvement. 31-03-2026
Celebration of The World Consumer Right Day The Department of Commerce of Pandu College, Ghy.12, held a Webinar on Consumer Rights Awareness on the occasion of Consumer Rights Day on 15th March, 2026, Sunday at 7 PM. The webinar was a highly informative and engaging session aimed at raising awareness about consumer rights, protections, and redressal mechanisms under Indian law. It combined a Power Point presentations, legal insights, major case studies, and interactive student participation, making it relevant for students, and the faculty members of the department. The webinar commenced with an opening address by the Head of Department, Ajay Prasad Saikia who set the context, highlighted the importance of consumer awareness in today's market-driven economy, and welcomed participants and the faculty members of the Department. Cultual Rally The Commerce Department of Pandu College, Guwahati, Assam, actively participated in the inter-departmental cultural rally held on February 5, 2026 as a key highlight of the Annual College Week celebrations (5th t0 9th February , 2026), organized by the Pandu College Student's Union Society (PCSUS 2025-26). With 77 enthusiastic participants from the department, the rally focused on showcasing Wedding traditions from diverse Indian communities—including Assamese, Rabha, Bodo, Bengali, Bihari, Nepali, and South Indian through a vibrant procession featuring traditional attire, symbolic rituals, folk performances, and creative cultural displays that celebrated India's matrimonial diversity in a lively campus environment. MORAL VALUES FOR STUDENTS: - ESSENTIAL LESSONS FOR ACADEMIC AND PERSONAL GROWTH” A students’ guidance programme on “MORAL VALUES FOR STUDENTS:- ESSENTIAL LESSONS FOR ACADEMIC LESSONS FOR ACADEMIC AND PERSONAL GROWTH” was conducted successfully on 12th December, 2025, from 11 am to 12 pm, in the Digital Classroom(2nd Floor) of the Administrative Building, of Pandu College by the Department. In this programme, Dr. Maitreyee Sharma(Associate Professor), Department of Philosophy, Pandu College,Guwahati-12, was present as resource person, who guided and motivated our students with her inspiring words regarding importance of moral values in the life of human being and how ethics can help us with mental peace. In her speech, she also added some real-life examples along with her own life experiences and believes. Total 80 number of students of the department along with 7 faculty members were present in the progremme. Lecture programme on "Financial Literacy" in collaboration with SEBI and CSDL A highly successful Financial Literacy Awareness Programme was conducted on 3rd December, 2025 at Digital Classroom of Pandu College by the Security and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and Central and Depository Services (India) Ltd. (CDSL) in collaboration with Pandu College, Department of Commerce. Over 122 students (mainly from B. Com 1st, 3rd & 5th Semester) along with 8 faculty members actively participated. The session began with the traditional Assamese welcome of Mr. Ajit A. Patil was honoured with a Phulam Gamusa by one of our faculty members Chandana Sharma. Mr. Patil delivered an engaging an hour lecture covering topics such as Role and functions of SEBI, Introduction to CDSL and importance of Demat account, Investor protection measures and grievance redressal, Basics of the capital markets and safe investing practices. Company visit orgaised for the B.Com 1st and 5th Semester students Pandu College, Commerce Department organised a company visit programme on 29th November 2025, for B.Com 1st and 5th Semester students .The team visit Multi Consultancy Services, 30/B, D Neog Path, ABC, GS Road, Ulubari, Guwahati, Kamrup(M), Assam -781005, along with 20 numbers of students and 03 faculty members of the department. In this programme, Mr Biswajit Basak, CEO of the Company explained about the entrepreneurship journey and business operations, and Mrs. Anangsha Sharma HR Manager of the company, explained and guided tour of the company. After that, a question- answer session was held where students asked different questions and clarified their doubts. The entire programme was interactive and fruitful for the students, and they gained some practical knowledge about the startup of a new venture. 29-11-2025
Outreach programme on Role of C&AG of India and importance of Audit On 26th November 2025 (Wednesday), an outreach programme was held in the Digital Classroom of Pandu College, Guwahati, Assam 781012, among the Under-graduate Students of Commerce Department, about the “Role of Controller & Auditor General of India and Importance of Audit”, on the occasion of Audit Week from 23rd to 28th November, 2025, celebrated by Indian Audit & Accounts Department, in collaboration with the Offices of the Principal Director of Audit, N.F Railway, Maligaon, Guwahati, Assam, Accountants General (A&E) and (Audit) Assam, Director General of Audit (Central) Kolkata, Guwahati Branch and the Commerce Department of Pandu College. In this occasion, respected Director Uttam Chanda, Deputy Director Mahadev Omkare, Sr. Audit Officer Debashis Sarkar and Pulak RN. Sharma, Asst. After successfully completing graduation, learners acquire knowledge and skills in the different areas related to commerce, which includes accounting, management, marketing, finance, economics, Business mathematics, Business statistics, taxation and auditing. It also creates confidence among the learners, which helps them grow an attitude for working effectively and efficiently. Students having choice to pursue professional and other courses like L.LB, M. Com, MBA, CS, CMA, ICWA etc. after graduation. The programme helps and makes the learners to play a role of businessman, entrepreneur, FINANCIAL & Tax consultant and practice-nor, insurance agents, financial advisor, investment and portfolio management agent, stock & security market, mutual fund and capital market analyst etc. in modern world. The learners also get opportunities to get job or employment in banking, finance and marketing and management of private, government or corporate sector.
