Department at a glance
Vision :
To produce efficient statisticians who can help in planning for the development of the state. Development of an area depends on proper planning. The state Assam is underdeveloped in comparison to the rest of the developed parts of the country. We need statisticians who can help the state to keep pace with the rest of the country.
Mission:
To help the students in order to develop their intellect and self-confidence.
To provide ability to use sound statistical methodology to arrive at scientific conclusions.
To produce leaders in training , research and innovation in the field of Theoretical and Applied Statistics, Data analytics, Demography, Bio-statistics and Medical related areas to suit the needs of a dynamic world.
About the Department :
The Department of Statistics was established in the year 1981 under the affiliation of Gauhati University with General Course only. After that , Major Course was introduced in the year 1987. Since its inception, Mr. Pradip Sarma has joined as a Part time faculty from June,1981 to July, 1981. After that Mr. Bipin Ch. Pathak has joined as HOD who served in the Department from 1984 to 2015. In addition to him , other faculty members of the department are Dr. Giti Goswami , Mr. Kamal Dutta and Mrs. Manika Devi Barman. Presently, there are three sanctioned posts in the Department. After the retirement of Dr. G. Goswami and Mr. K. Dutta, Mrs. Barman took the charge of HOD. Currently, the other two faculty members present in the department are Dr. Barnali Thakuria and Dr. Chikhla Jun Gogoi. Last but not the least , the department lab bearer is Mr. Redo Rabha who takes special care for the need of Practical classes for the students.
Features:
The Department has departmental library which can be used by both the teachers and students.
Every year the department organizes departmental Fresher's, Farewell and Seminars.
It also brings one Wall Magazine annually.
The Department also organizes Alumni Meet.
It conducts remedial classes for each Semester students.
Departmental meetings are also held from time to time for the development of departmental purpose.

| Second Industry Visit by Department of Statistics | An industrial visit was organized by the Department of Statistics, Pandu College in collaboration with Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) on 28th of November, 2024. The industry to visit was “AUM PACKAGING COMPANY” located at Pacharia Dalar Pathar, Guwahati. There, the students had seen the manufacturing process of plastic bottles. The raw plastic materials were being used to make the pre form of plastic bottles which are of PET type. It was come to know that the mining of raw plastic materials were done at KOLKATA HOLDIA. | Industry Visit by Department of Statistics | An industrial visit was organized by the Department of Statistics, Pandu College in collaboration with Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) on 28th of November, 2024. The students of the department visited the industry “Al Rods Pvt. Ltd” located at Pacharia Dalar Pathar. This industry mainly deals with the manufacturing of electric wires and wolf conductors of maximum 37 mm which are made out of aluminum and steel.
