The department was initially headed by Prof. (Dr.) Biman Kar, one of the distinguished founding members of the college, who served as the first Head of the Department. Under his leadership, the department laid a strong academic foundation and set high standards of teaching and scholarship.
Over the years, the department has been enriched by the contributions of several eminent educators. Former faculty members include Late Santi Bhusan Dutta, Dr. Ranjita Medhi, Late Prasad Ch.
